What counts as a “Matrimonial Asset”?

  • The following types of property count as matrimonial assets:
    • The matrimonial home
    • Property acquired during the marriage
    • Property acquired before marriage which was:
      • Ordinarily used by the family
      • Substantially improved by both or other parties
    • Gifts substantially improved by both or another party
  • Property acquired before the marriage doesn’t otherwise constitute matrimonial assets
